Bearded vinyl guru Bob Gamber of Vinyl Revolution.

Jack White is one of the vinyl world's most serious advocates; when iPods were the hottest music listening devices on the market, he constantly pushed for music lovers to ditch their iPod for a turntable.

“Vinyl is the real deal," White said. "I’ve always felt like, until you buy the vinyl record, you don’t really own the album. And it’s not just me or a little pet thing or some kind of retro romantic thing from the past. It is still alive.” (There's even a fridge magnet with White's passionate vinyl quote available for purchase.)

Vinyl is still alive as is Record Store Day. Since 2008, the hugely popular worldwide celebration has showcased the beloved music format and championed indie record stores.

There will be three Record Store Days in 2020.

Like everything else that's had to adjust and adapt to the pandemic-stricken world, Record Store Day is approaching 2020 with some tweaks and revisions, ensuring safety above all.

From the RSD official website: "RSD is now scheduled to be celebrated with special, properly distanced release dates on Saturdays in August, September and October."

"Record Store Day will look very different this year, but supporting indie record stores may be more important than ever. We don't know what sort of rules will be in place, or what sort of gatherings people will be in the mood for this year, so we're focusing on the music and getting the really great titles on the RSD Official List this year into the stores and into your hands, in the most financially and socially responsible way."

More info: The titles on the RSD 2020 Official List will be released at participating record stores on one of the three RSD Drops: August 29, September 26 or October 24.

You can print out a PDF to use as a wishlist or shopping guide.

There are three record stores on the Monterey Peninsula. Make sure you check their website or give them a ring to see if they are participating in RSD:

Vinyl Revolution (309 Forest Ave., Pacific Grove :: 831-646-9020)

Recycled Records (604 Lighthouse Ave., Monterey :: 831-375-5454)

Siren (527 Ramona Ave., Monterey :: 831-920-2801)

The RSD website also provides a search engine to find all participating locations.

Note: Record store info may not be completely up-to-date.
